Chairman of the NMHTAC

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to personally welcome you to the website of the Northwestern Medicine Transplant Advisory Council (NMTAC).  Our Council consists of very grateful transplant recipients and donors who have unique relationships with Comprehensive Transplant Center (CTC) at Northwestern Memorial in Chicago.  We think of our Council as a special club as all of our members are living better lives thanks to the CTC.  Some of us have received a kidney, liver, pancreas, or other solid organ and others have made the courageous choice to continue the cycle of giving by donating an organ.  However, we all have one thing in common, and that is our extreme gratitude to the surgeons, clinicians, and staff at the CTC for all they have done for us and our families.

The CTC is center of excellence for organ transplantation and is renowned throughout the country.  It has had years of success growing into a premier transplant center and over time it has attracted the “best of the best” within the medical community.  The CTC has also made it possible for members of our Council to lead normal lives.   For this we are not only thankful, but passionate about supporting the CTC.

Our Council hopes to give back by establishing a culture of philanthropy within the  CTC community, building a sustainable model that will raise funds to enable various CTC programs to mature, and  developing lasting relationships with the CTC donor base.  Ultimately, members of our Council will serve as leaders that build a fundraising program that perpetuates itself well into the future.  Institutional leaders, in conjunction with the Northwestern Memorial Foundation and our Council, will be instrumental in funding programs that save lives.

The members of our Council, alumni, and evangelists for the CTC all come from different backgrounds and experiences, from seasoned business professionals, to community leaders.  Despite our relative histories, we are united in our vision to give back.   We are also committed to communicating with pre and post-transplant patients.  The organ transplantation process can be daunting for patients and their families.  Members of our Council know this as we have gone through the process ourselves.  In an effort to make the process less strenuous for patients and families we have developed this website not only to spread awareness of the CTC’s initiatives, but to establish a welcoming community.  On this site, patients and their families will be able to connect with others that understand the unique challenges they are facing.

As Chairman of the NMTAC and an organ recipient, it’s an honor for me to be a member a Council that supports the CTC’s livesaving programs.  I hope that you will join us in our mission to give back.

Sincerely,

Dan Dickinson
Chairman of the NMTAC
